Pseudo-scientific and Paranormal Claims-James Randi(Quest Science month special)
Lecture is from the McGill University’s Lorne Trottier Public Science Symposium on the confrontation and threat of pseudoscience in contemporary society. As one of the central figures in the area of “flim-flam,” James Randi has exposed fraud, deceit, cheats, fakes, liars, and charlatans with effervescent ease. Trained as a magician, his insight into pseudoscience is much more into how people fool themselves and others into believing an array of tricks from the bag of a learned conjurer. In this lecture he gives examples of such tricks and examines how they relate to modern paranormal nonsense.
It’s refreshing listening James Randy after a long time! Always a fan of his humor and sarcasm!! The way he presents the talk and influence our mind is commendable! He almost conquered mine in this talk!!
He explains how easy it is to make believe people in certain things!! how easy it is to convince a group to believe in a thing which is even not in existence at that time!!
Nicely explained the story behind the several non sense claims about many products, some of them even sponsored by scientific community. Similarly the example of Ronnie Marcus also lies in the same category.although that was an hilarious example!!! but still on serious note People with no explanation or very little explanations are making much noise about science, and that is dangerous. The demonstration by Magic marker was also wonderful.
Thank you admin for this complete package of infotainment!!
And I am more than happy, even happier than Randy that no one has claimed million dollar prize till date!!!
